This guide explains the words used to describe medicines, in plain language that both professionals and general readers can follow. For each word you get three things: a clear explanation, one example on its own, and a short walk through that example.
उदाहरण
Generic and Brand.
These two words sound almost the same, but they mean very different things. A generic is the real medicine. A brand is one company's named packet of that medicine. This guide exists so that differences like this always stay clear in your head.

The levels go from the widest grouping to the most specific item: System, then Subsystem, then Therapeutic class, then Generic, and finally Brand. General at the top, specific at the bottom.

तह 1
System
A system is the widest group of medicines. Medicines are first sorted by the part of the body they act on, or the kind of problem they treat, and each large group is called a system. A system does not treat anything by itself. It is only the top-level heading that all the smaller groups and medicines are placed under. It is the first level you look at when finding a medicine.
उदाहरण
Gastrointestinal system drugs.
यसको अर्थ
This system covers the stomach and the intestines. Any medicine for gas, acidity, constipation, loose motion or ulcers belongs here. Notice that it does not point to one medicine. It only opens a big door. Once you step through it, you begin to narrow down toward the exact problem you want to treat.

तह 2
Subsystem
A subsystem is a smaller group that sits inside a system. It divides a broad system into more focused parts, bringing you one step closer to a specific medicine. A subsystem can also contain further subsystems, so the grouping can go a few levels deep. Each system holds its own subsystems directly inside it.
उदाहरण
Drugs for Constipation, kept inside the Gastrointestinal system.
यसको अर्थ
The stomach and gut section is huge. So inside it, we keep a smaller shelf only for constipation medicines. That shelf is a subsystem. It leaves out everything else about digestion and keeps just one topic together. And if that shelf ever grows too big, we can divide it once more into even smaller shelves.

तह 3
Therapeutic class
A therapeutic class is a group of medicines that work in a similar way or are used for a similar purpose. It is the last level of grouping before an actual medicine. Medicines in the same class tend to have similar effects and similar cautions, and sometimes one can replace another. Every generic medicine belongs to one or more therapeutic classes.
उदाहरण
Leukotriene receptor antagonists.
यसको अर्थ
This family holds medicines that all relax the airways by blocking the same body chemical. Montelukast, a common asthma medicine, is one of them. The moment you learn that a drug belongs to this family, you already know its main job, to make breathing easier, without reading anything more.

तह 4
Generic
A generic is the real medicine, the active ingredient itself, named by its scientific name rather than a brand name. It holds all the important medical information: what it treats, the dose for adults and children, side effects, warnings, how it works, and what it should not be combined with. A generic does not depend on any brand or company, which is why the same generic can be sold under many different product names.
उदाहरण
Montelukast.
यसको अर्थ
Montelukast is the true drug. It does not change with the packet or the company. The science stays the same everywhere. Many products on the shelf are simply Montelukast inside, wearing different names. That is why we treat the generic as the one true source, and everything else points back to it.

तह 5
Brand
A brand is a finished product that is sold in the market. It has a name, a strength, a form such as tablet or syrup, a price, a pack size, and one company that makes it. A brand is not a separate medicine. It is one company's packaged and named version of a generic, which is why many brands can contain the same generic inside.
उदाहरण
Lukast 4mg Tablet, Rs 7, made by Magnus Pharma.
यसको अर्थ
Lukast is just a name on a packet. Inside, it is plain Montelukast, the same drug that other companies sell under other names. What makes this brand different is only its outer details. Four milligrams in each tablet, a price of Rs 7, and Magnus Pharma as the maker. Change the company or the strength, and the brand changes. But the medicine inside can stay exactly the same.

Company
A company is the maker of a brand, the business that manufactures and sells it. It is not part of the medicine itself, but the same generic can be made by many different companies, each with its own brand name, price, and quality. The company is kept separate so it is always clear who produces a given product.
उदाहरण
Magnus Pharma Pvt. Ltd.
यसको अर्थ
Magnus Pharma is the company that makes the Lukast brand. Another company could make its own Montelukast, give it a different name and a different price, and sell it too. Same medicine, different maker. That is why the maker is kept separate from the medicine.
Indication
An indication is the reason a medicine is used, the disease, symptom, or condition it is meant to treat. Most medicines are used for more than one problem, so a single generic usually has several indications. Indications also let you search the other way, by asking which medicines treat a given condition.
उदाहरण
Asthma.
यसको अर्थ
Asthma is one of the problems Montelukast is used for. Since one medicine can treat many problems, and one problem can be treated by many medicines, indications work like a bridge. They connect each health problem to the medicines that help it.
Pregnancy category
A pregnancy category is a safety grade showing how risky a medicine is for a pregnant woman and her baby. It uses letters: A is the safest, B and C carry rising uncertainty, D and X mean known risk (X means avoid completely), and Not Classified means no grade has been given. Every generic has exactly one pregnancy category.
उदाहरण
Category B.
यसको अर्थ
Grade B means that studies so far have not shown a clear danger to the baby. So it is considered reasonably safe, though still not as safe as an A. That one small letter saves a mother, or her doctor, from reading pages of text just to understand the risk.
प्रत्येक औषधिले बोक्ने चिकित्सकीय विवरणहरू
Every generic medicine records the following kinds of information. These are general medical words, worth knowing wherever you meet them.
Indication
A short line stating what the medicine is mainly used for. It is a quick summary of the medicine's main purpose, not a detailed description of each condition.
उदाहरण
For relief of asthma and seasonal allergy.
यसको अर्थ
In one short line, you learn the medicine's main job. If you want deeper detail on each condition, you look elsewhere. But for a quick answer, this one line is enough.
Contraindication
A contraindication is a situation where the medicine must not be used, because it could cause harm. It is the opposite of an indication. Contraindications are strict rules, not general warnings.
उदाहरण
Do not use in anyone allergic to the drug.
यसको अर्थ
If a person is allergic to Montelukast, giving it could set off a dangerous reaction. So for that person, the answer is a clear no. A contraindication draws a line that should never be crossed.
Mode of action
Mode of action is how the medicine works inside the body to produce its effect. It explains why the medicine helps a condition, why it may cause certain side effects, and why it belongs to its drug family.
उदाहरण
It blocks the body chemicals that tighten the airways, so breathing becomes easier.
यसको अर्थ
In asthma, the airways become narrow because of certain chemicals in the body. Montelukast blocks those chemicals, so the airways stay open. That single action explains both why it helps asthma and why it sits in the airway-relaxing family.
Dose
The dose is how much medicine to take and how often. It is given separately for different patients: a general guide, an adult amount, a child amount (often by age or weight), and a renal amount for people with weak kidneys who clear the drug slowly.
उदाहरण
Adult: 10 mg once daily in the evening. Child: 4 mg for ages 2 to 5.
यसको अर्थ
An adult and a small child should never take the same amount. And weak kidneys can let a drug build up to a dangerous level. Splitting the dose by patient makes it clear, at a glance, which instruction is meant for whom.
Administration
Administration is the practical instruction on how to take the medicine, such as the timing, whether to take it with food, and how to swallow or prepare it. These details affect how well the medicine works.
उदाहरण
Take once a day in the evening, with or without food.
यसको अर्थ
Montelukast works best in the evening, because asthma often troubles people at night. And since it can be taken with or without food, the patient has one less thing to worry about.
Side effect
A side effect is an unwanted effect a medicine may cause along with its benefit. Almost every medicine has some. Knowing them helps a patient tell a minor discomfort from a serious warning sign, and understand when to seek help.
उदाहरण
Headache, stomach pain, tiredness.
यसको अर्थ
These are the common, usually mild effects some people feel from Montelukast. If you know them beforehand, a small headache feels normal instead of frightening. And anything severe or strange becomes a clear signal to see a doctor.
Precaution
A precaution is a warning to take extra care while using the medicine. Unlike a contraindication, it does not forbid the medicine. It marks the people or situations that need closer monitoring or a careful decision.
उदाहरण
Use with care in people with liver problems.
यसको अर्थ
A person with a weak liver can still take the medicine, but may need a smaller dose or closer monitoring. It is a go slow and be careful sign, not a stop sign.
Interaction
An interaction is when a medicine clashes with another medicine, a food, or a condition. The clash can weaken the medicine, make it too strong, or cause a new problem. Interactions matter because people often take several medicines at the same time.
उदाहरण
Its level may fall if taken with certain epilepsy medicines.
यसको अर्थ
Some epilepsy medicines make the body remove Montelukast faster, so it may not work as well when taken together. Knowing this in advance helps avoid an unpleasant surprise.
यी शब्दहरू आपसमा कसरी जोडिन्छन्
These words connect into one chain. A system contains subsystems. A subsystem leads to therapeutic classes. A therapeutic class contains generic medicines. Each generic is sold as many brands, and each brand is made by a company. Separately, each generic is also linked to the conditions it treats and to one pregnancy category. Reading downward goes from the widest group to the exact product. Reading upward, any product can be traced back to its medicine, its class, and its system.
- Gastrointestinal system
- Drugs for Constipation
- a drug family
- a generic medicine
- a branded packet by a company
Going down, you narrow step by step. The big stomach and gut section, then the constipation group inside it, then the exact family of medicines, then the real drug, and finally the named packet a shop sells. Going up, the same path means that even if you only hold the packet, you can trace it all the way back, and understand exactly what it is and where it belongs.
